Germanna Community College
Germanna Community College is a two-year public institution in the Virginia Community College System. As a comprehensive community college, Germanna provides quality, accessible and affordable educational opportunities for the residents of Fredericksburg and Culpeper and the following counties:
- King George
Established in 1970, GCC has grown to four campuses throughout the region. Its enrollment consistently ranks among the highest in Virginia’s 23 community colleges.
Admission to Other Universities
Through system-wide agreements, students who graduate from one of Virginia's 23 community colleges with an associate's degree and a minimum grade point average may obtain guaranteed admission to more than 20 of the commonwealth's colleges and universities. The grade point average that's required varies depending on the institution to which the student is transferring. Getting an associate's degree at Germanna before going to a university or four-year college can save tens of thousands of dollars and students are well prepared for academic challenges they face elsewhere when they transfer.
Workforce & Community Division
Germanna’s Workforce and Community Division also partners with local businesses, non-profit organizations and localities to provide customized training to expand existing industries and attract new companies to the area. Some examples of the training programs include:
- Achieve Global©Training Program
- Quality Control and Lean Six-Sigma
- Business Communications
- Project Management
- Customer Service
- Management and Supervisory Skills
- Business Writing
- Workplace Spanish
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook among others)
In addition to its workforce initiatives, Germanna’s reaches out to the community in many other ways. Its engineering students have been trained to give community tours of GCC’s new high tech green buildings at the Fredericksburg Area Campus. The building is a giant, fully functional lab that serves as a teaching tool for science and engineering students. Its state-of-the-art 20,000 square foot library is open to the public.
GCC also hosts cultural events, including lectures by authors that are open to the public.
