CTI Real Estate
Michelle Thompson is the CEO and Principal Broker of CTI Real Estate, which is the largest real estate firm owned by an African American woman in the Fredericksburg region. CTI Real Estate is committed to giving back to the Fredericksburg community in a tangible way, through first-time home buyer seminars, workforce development, and general real estate financing and training.
Thompson has been a licensed real estate professional since 1992, and opened her firm in 2004, right in Fredericksburg. In the last 19 years CTI Real Estate has grown from 5 agents to almost 70.
According to Thompson, being a first time home buyer is the first step in financial security, generational wealth, and putting a stake in the ground. Her seminars illuminate the process of buying a home for the first time, and allow an entry way into real estate. For instance, one of Thompson’s seminars sheds light on the grants and programs available to home buyers.
“As my grandmother used to say, ‘You gotta get a piece of the land. They’re not making any more of it,’” Thompson said.
In addition to her leading role with CTI Real Estate, Thompson is a member of Shiloh Old Site Baptist Church, where she served on the task force to construct and debut Riverfront Park. She is also on the board of directors for the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Virginia Partners Bank.
CTI Real Estate offers scholarships for applicants who intend to go into a trade. CTI gave away over 19 scholarships, and in April 2024, they will give away 20 scholarships to celebrate their 20th anniversary in business.
“We are invested in the City of Fredericksburg,” Thompson said.
CTI recently relocated from Central Park to downtown Fredericksburg, with an office right on Wolfe Street. Thompson is excited not only that she can see the VRE and Amtrak trains from her office, but that CTI is within walking distance to three predominantly African American churches.
“It’s a great place to be,” she said.
Thompson is very proud of CTI Real Estate’s success as the largest African American woman-owned local real estate firm. She said that opening a business as a woman of color has been truly impactful, as her work has led others to follow in her footsteps.
“Sometimes you have to see that it is possible,” Thompson said, “so that others will take the paths.”
Thompson’s seminars, classes, and workshops are taught at her office at 415 Wolfe Street. Follow them on Facebook.
