Fredericksburg is fortunate not only to have a rail station that runs right through downtown, but to be one of the first stops on the Virginia Railway Express (VRE). The VRE is a commuter train that services local residents en route to Washington, D.C. You can conveniently commute to D.C. every weekday, in just a little over an hour. If you live just outside of Fredericksburg, there are multiple rail stops in the Fredericksburg region (the first stop is in Spotsylvania). The VRE is a safe, affordable, efficient option for you to commute to work.
Fredericksburg Station also services riders of Amtrak, if you are looking to make an even longer trip up and down the East Coast.
